O’Fallon District 90 Maximized Their 2024 Property Tax Levy

At their December 2024 regular meeting, the O’Fallon District 90 Board of Education (BOE) approved a resolution to submit their 2024 Property Tax Levy of $30,079,424, an admitted 9.99 % increase over their 2023 tax levy. This was their estimated “want” from their portion of your property taxes. At their February 2025 regular meeting, they disclosed their confirmed maximum tax levy eligibility to be $29,968,122, after the country finalized District 90’s total Estimated Assessed Value (EAV) for 2024 and applied all tax rate limitations imposed by law (Tax Levy = Tax Rate x EAV). This represents a 10% increase in their tax levy from that received from the 2023 property taxes.

Had they asked for less than $29,968,122 in December 2024, they would have been eligible to receive only what they requested. Clearly, they are taxing your property at the highest possible rate allowed by law. In other words, they are getting all the available revenue possible from your property taxes.

The same is true for O’Fallon Township Highschool (OTH) District 203 who increased their requested 2024 tax levy by approximately $2,700,000 to $30,998,545, a 9.5% increase.

Both O’Fallon District 90 and OTHS District 203 were able to brag that their tax levies result in a decrease in their tax rate only because of the increase of the total EAV in their districts to more than $1B for 2024. This increase is due to both the continuing growth of O’Fallon (which added more taxable properties) and increases in the assessed value of the existing properties.

The miniscule reduction in their tax rate, while they take every available cent of your property taxes, is only possible because of the growth of the total EAV in their districts.

Your 2024 property taxes are still going to be higher by a percentage that is far greater than the inflation rate.

Well said sir! Let me just add that the property tax levy increase from FY'22 to FY '25 was 35.77%. The increase from FY '22 to FY '26 will be 50.3%. Student enrollment has increased by roughly 11%. And our percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards? Still less than 50%!
